Xcel Energy is the largest provider of natural gas and electricity to Denver and the rest of the state. Xcel Energy is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and serves more than 3.7 million electric customers and 2.1 million natural gas customers throughout parts of Colorado, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, and New Mexico. Xcel has four subsidiaries: Northern States Power-Minnesota, Northern States Power-Wisconsin, Public Service Company of Colorado, and Southwestern Public Service Co. The company is committed to delivering 100% clean, carbon-free electricity by 2050. 

How to Set Up Your Electricity Online Account in Denver

To start your electric and/or gas service in Denver, you can click “Start Service” on their website, choose the type of account you want to set up (residential), and click on “Next.” You will be asked to provide your name, address, and the date you want to start your service in Denver. Note that if the electricity and/or gas is turned off at your new address, you will need to call 1-800-895-4999 to start your service. 

Paying Your Denver Electric and Gas Bill

Xcel Energy offers several convenient ways to pay your electric and/or gas bill. Here is a convenient list of your options:

  • My Account – Create a My Account profile where you can sign in and pay your bill at any time.  Those who pay online manage to avoid extra fees.
  • Credit or debit card - Xcel Energy partners with KUBRA EZ-PAY to offer convenient, secure bill payments using credit or debit cards. A $1.80 processing fee will be charged to residential customers (excluding MI, MN, and WI). 
  • By phone - Call 800-895-4999 to make a one-time payment using their automated phone system.
  • By mobile app – Download the Xcel mobile app and log in using My Account to pay your bill on their mobile app.
  • In person - Pay your electric/gas bill in person at any pay station. With your Xcel Energy account number or your bill stub, you can conveniently pay by cash or money order. You will be charged a $1.50 transaction fee for each bill you pay. Hours of operation vary, so check before you go.
  • Auto pay – enroll online in Auto Pay an have your bill payment automatically deducted each month, so you’ll never have a late payment. 
  • By mail – Xcel includes a pre-addressed return envelope with your monthly bill. Simply include your bill stub. If you misplace your envelope, you can mail your payment to the following address:

Denver Water Utility – Denver Water

Denver Water provides high-quality water to 1.5 million people in the city of Denver and many of the surrounding suburbs. The company was established in 1918 and is the oldest and largest water utility in the state of Colorado. Denver Water mainly uses the Colorado River as a water source and serves about 25% of the state of Colorado’s population.

How to Set Up Your Water in Denver

To start your water service with Denver Water, call their Customer Care line at 303-893-2444, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The representative will ask for your new home address, billing address, phone number, and the start date for the service. If your title company is processing your property sale, please have them submit a request online for service requests.

How to Pay Your Denver Water Bill Online

You have several different options to pay your Denver water bill. Here are the ways they accept payments:

  • Online – Pay your Denver utilities online. You can make a one-time payment as guest using a credit or debit card. Please have your Denver Water account number and customer ID available. You can find both at the top of your bill. This service is available 24/7.
  • Autopay – follow the steps on the website to create an account online and sign up for autopay. You can have your payment automatically deducted using a credit or debit card, or you can have your payment deducted from your checking, savings, or money market account. 
  • Pay-by-text – you can sign up for pay-by-text through your online account by following the prompt for “PAY-BY-TEXT.” You will receive a bill text reminder five days before your bill is due. Make your payment easy with a quick text reply.
  • In-person payment centers – you can make cash or PIN-based debit card payments at Western Union agent locations. 
  • Pay by Phone – you have two pay-by-phone options. You can use the Automated Payment Processing Service by calling 1-800-556-0292. This service is available 24 hours a day. You can also contact a Customer Care Representative at 303-893-2444 during regular business hours Monday to Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Denver Trash and Recycling Pick-Up Utilities – Denver Solid Waste Management Division

The City of Denver Solid Waste Management Division handles trash and recycling services for Denver residents. The Solid Waste Management Division also oversees solid waste services, addressing account management and billing issues.

How to Set Up Your Trash/Recycling Pickup in Denver

To start service, set up a new Denver Utilities online account on the city website by clicking on the sign up now link. Enter your email address. They will send you a verification code to verify your email. Click Continue, then enter your name and create a password. 

Make sure you choose paperless billing so you can pay online without needing something sent to your mailing address.

Trash is currently collected once a week. Find out your scheduled day by visiting the Schedules and Reminders page or by downloading the Denver Trash & Recycling app. Submit cart size requests when signing up. Trash carts are available in 35, 65, and 95 gallons. Your bill is based on your trash cart size. If you need to, you can report missed collections.
